The Chamber of commerce has set a goal to create 20 million jobs over the next decade. A tall order indeed, but it is their vehicle to reach that goal that has intrigued me. To quote the Chamber of commerce CEO Tom Donohue when he said, “We announced a major long term program to remind people of what system of economics created the greatest economy in the history of the world. And that’s a free enterprise system with free capital markets, and with free trade, and the right to fail and the right to succeed.” It’s not everyday you hear proponents for our free market. We can all learn from Tom Donohue. Unfortunately, even the President of The United States. The President took time out of his speech last week to mention the Chamber and how it was trying to kill his plans. I must say, if promoting the free market system is going to kill a plan from the current administration then perhaps it wasn’t the proper plan for America.
Now, I understand, hope and change… Fundamental transformation… and all of that, but could he really want us to change from something that has played such a great role in making this country what it is? In past reports I have covered capitalism and what I know it can do. Why is it such a hard concept for the left wing of our government to comprehend it? Right now our dollar is weak and getting weaker. The chamber has advised that the U.S. embrace trade and boost our trading by 5 times the current level. A plan that could actually happen without much effort. Our products are getting cheaper everyday and the world will be looking to buy them up. The job creation with increased trade alone would be great success, but will our government allow it? Let me rephrase that. Will our government step aside long enough to get this great nation back on track using the free market system, or will they continue printing and spending money, causing our dollar to decline in value? History has shown us what the overzealous printing of money will do to a nation, will someone please send a history book to the White House.
